WESTERN SAHARA
( we will be entering the Western Sahara today )
This area is both Lawless and very Barron!
It is one of the most sparsely populated territories in the world!! ( mostly desert and flat land)
Formerly a Spanish colony, it was invaded and occupied by Moroccan and Mauritanian troops in 1975 following what has come to be known as the Madrid Accords, when Spain unilaterally withdrew from its colony.
The population is estimated at just over 500,000, of which nearly 40% Laayoune, the largest city in Western Sahara
Morocco has claimed authority over the area since 1975, but the United Nations (UN) does not recognize Moroccan control, calling Western Sahara a “non-self-governing territory.”
There are also ( Over 173,000 )Sahrawi refugees, estimated to live in five camps in Tindouf province, Algeria, on the border between Mauritania, Morocco, and Western Sahara..
